Glory in the Highest

Read

Luke 2:13-14, "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth, peace to those on whom his favor rests.'"

Think

Singing Christmas carols is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. But, as we get closer to the 25th, songs about the true meaning of Christmas become innocuously mixed among the scores of holiday hits like "Here Comes Santa Claus" and "Jingle Bell Rock." They're relegated to background music while we're busy shopping, searching for the best deals, and waiting in long checkout lines. In today's reading, an angel of the Lord had just proclaimed the good news of Christ's birth to shepherds in a field nearby. And, as if that weren't shocking enough, they witnessed a multitude of heavenly beings filling the night sky for a private concert singing: "Glory to God in the highest!" What they experienced seems unfathomable. But, what is fathomable are the countless ways that we, too, can glorify God by sharing His love with others through our words, actions, and deeds. So, the next time you find yourself mindlessly humming along to "O Holy Night" or "Joy to the World," tune in and ask yourself, "How am I glorifying God today?" After all, Jesus is the reason for the season!

Act

Worship God and remember the real reason for the season as you sing along to songs about Jesus' birth and proclaim "Glory to God in the Highest!"

Pray

Dear Lord, You deserve the highest praise. Today, I seek to glorify You through my words and actions. Place people in my path with whom I can share Your glory by inviting them to experience true worship this Christmas at Fellowship Church. In Jesus' name, Amen.
