Fix Your Focus

1 Samuel 8:21-22, "When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. The Lord answered, ‘Listen to them and give them a king.'"

Think

The Israelites, disillusioned and dissatisfied with foreign oppression, cried out to God for a king. Despite the harsh consequences of having adopted the immoral practices of neighboring nations with kings, they missed the obvious: God was their King! Yet, surprisingly, God granted their misguided request. Unfortunately, they'd soon discover that #WeWantAKingToo wasn't necessarily the cure-all they'd hoped for. So often we do the same thing. Think how silly some of our requests must seem to God. Like asking for a band-aid to cover a shark bite, we look for temporary solutions to life's problems. However, rarely do quick fixes lead to comprehensive cures. The only solution to every situation is found when we fix our focus on the King of Kings, Jesus Christ! He may not always give us what we think is best, but He will always provide exactly what He knows we need on time, every time! #OurKingReigns!

Act

Who is running your life? Like the Israelites, are you looking around rather than looking up? Take a moment to consider if God is the primary source that directs your course. No matter the situation, all you have to do is ask, and your King will guide You in the right direction!

Pray

Lord, You always have my best interest in mind, even when I can't see beyond what I think is right. Help me to look to You first and give me the perspective to see beyond my immediate struggles as I learn to trust more in Your timely provision. Thank You! Amen.
