James 3:13,
"Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here's what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It's the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts."
Think
Don't Balk...Walk the Talk Think about a person in your life that you go to when you need advice. What sets them apart from others? Chances are you have probably watched how that person lives. Perhaps others have spoken of their reputation for being wise and trustworthy. That person has lived a life that reflects good character. They look to God for direction rather than the current cultural bias. They walk the talk. It is said that talk is cheap, but actions are priceless. A person with credibility and character understands this all too well. A person known for their character, Billy Graham, once said, "When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost." In the verse today, James reminds us just how important it is to live out our lives in a manner that is pleasing to God. A life lived with godly character is one that is watched with curiosity. It is a beacon that draws others to the one that gives wisdom, Jesus Christ.
Act
Be curious. Pinpoint someone who has character that you admire and ask them how they have built such a great reputation.
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me your Word, the Bible, to live by. Help me to not just read and talk about what it says, but help me to put it into action. Let my life be one that draws others to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
