Elevators

Read

Proverbs 14:7,  "Escape quickly from the company of fools; they're a waste of your time, a waste of your words."

Think

"Friends are like elevators - they either take you up or they take you down." Relationships don't happen by accident and we don't fall into friendship. So, this week we have broken down what it takes to be the right THEY – Teachable, Honest, Encouraging, and Yielded. But let's not be foolish. We need to break down some characteristics of the wrong THEY – it may not be as obvious as you think! • Cray THEY – people who wear you out with issues but never change. Time to move on. • Decay THEY – people who are rotting away in life and their decay is seeping into your life. • Fray THEY – people on the fringe who are with you for a season and then gone for a reason. • Stray THEY – people who will straight up lead you astray. • Betray THEY – people who you have let in and trusted, but in the end are disloyal. • Display THEY – people who are always trying to one-up you. • Prey THEY – people who take advantage of you and what you have to offer. Did someone come to mind with these THEY descriptions? It's one thing to be acquaintances, but these people should not be in your inner circle. They will only take you down in the elevator of life.

Act

Go back to your FRIEND-ventory from earlier this week. Begin to think about what it will take to move away from the wrong THEY and toward the right THEY.

Pray

God, thank you for the gift of relationships. Help me to honestly evaluate the wrong THEY in my life. It may not be easy to make changes, but I trust the plan and purpose you have for me. Amen!
