Commitment to Membership

Read

Luke 4:16, "And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read." Acts 17:2, "As was Paul's custom, he went to the synagogue service, and for three Sabbaths in a row he used the Scriptures to reason with the people."

Think

It's God's plan for us to be fully committed to the local church. Luke 4:16 tells us that the greatest man to ever live – Jesus – faithfully attended church. Likewise, in Acts 17:2, we see that arguably the second greatest man to ever live – Paul – was also fully committed to church membership and attendance. Obviously, we don't need to look any further to understand the overwhelming importance of church membership and attendance! If we have a heart for God, then we have a heart for his house. Notice both of today's verses present three powerful words of proof... "as was his custom!" This means they frequently inhabited God's house. We, too, need to be faithful, making it our custom to prioritize being in God's house every weekend. It gives us the necessary fuel and fire we need to take each week to a new level. The right start gives you the right perspective! As you begin each morning with prayer and each week with church, you're more like the two greatest men to ever live – and that's putting yourself in great company!

Act

In light of today's reading, stop and consider how faithful you've been about attending church over the past few months. As did Jesus and Paul, commit to making it your custom to ensure Sundays are the Lord's Day by spending them in his house!

Pray

God, thank you for inventing the Church, a place to unite with others, hear powerful, life-changing messages, invest in something greater than myself and serve to make a difference in the lives of others. I commit to making it my custom to spend Sundays in your House! In Jesus' name, Amen.
