All In!

Read

Luke 21:3-4, "'Truly I tell you,' he said, ‘this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.'"

Think

"It's not about what we make, it's about what we give." When it comes to generosity, many assume the most generous are the ones who give the largest dollar amount. Not so! The poor widow in today's reading is the perfect example. She gave the smallest amount possible, two copper coins, and yet Jesus states that she gave more than the rich. How? She gave everything she had! Abundant generosity is never determined by the size of the pile, but by the heart. Jesus commended the widow who only gave two copper coins as opposed to the rich who gave infinitely more. Why was she commended and not they? Because she gave generously from a very small pile, while the rich gave superficially from very large piles. How about you? Relative to your pile, your net worth, how is your generosity?

Act

Be open to opportunities to be generous today, and when they present themselves, do not hesitate. To the waiter at the restaurant; to the person behind us at the coffee shop; with a co-worker or neighbor for lunch; we have opportunities to be generous every day! And remember that real generosity begins where the tithe ends. Take a chance and see what happens as you bring to the church above the 10% tithe. You can't out give God!

Pray

Heavenly Father, reveal my heart when it comes to generosity. Help me remember I don't own anything, I'm simply a manager, and open my eyes to see the opportunities for generosity you have for me! Amen.
