A Matter of Trust

Read

Matthew 27:45-46,  "From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani'" (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?')."

Think

"Trust is a must!" Have you ever found yourself in a situation that left you wondering, "Why?" That question is a natural reaction when we are conflicted or confused. But so often, when we ask "Why?", we are demanding an answer. We hope that new information will give us clarification about our situation. But, we often fail to realize there are greater causes at work. What we must remember is that asking such a potent question requires us to be in the right position before God. Jesus, at the lowest point in His life, found Himself in a situation He had never experienced. Yet, as He cried out, "Why?" His motivation was one of distress, not distrust; His position was one of submission, not superiority. Are you facing a difficult situation in life right now? Are your circumstances causing you to question, "Why?" Rather than distrusting God, drill down to your motivation. Ask God for His perspective, and trust that He has the best in store for you. Remember, it's all a matter of trust!

Act

Trust is not always easy, especially if things are not going our way. But trust is crucial if we are going to get the most out of the life God has given us. If you are facing a situation where trusting God is difficult, take some time to write out times from your past where He has helped you through. If you can't think of any, ask a trusted friend to point out what they have seen in your life. Remembering the past can often help us in the present!

Pray

Dear God, You know what I am facing in my life. You know the circumstances and situation I am in. Right now, I turn to You. And while I don't have all the answers, I trust that You do. And I trust that You have the best in mind for me through anything I face. In Jesus' name, Amen.
