Read:
Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers.”
Think:
We know to prepare for the challenges of changing seasons when planting a seed. Parents also take deliberate steps to ensure their children's grounding, their life choices, their foundation. It's like tending to the growth of a tree, anticipating and planning for the hurdles along the way. When parents nurture their children within the context of faith and a local church, they are, in essence, providing them with intentional roots for an uncertain future.
While they can't predict when storms will arise or when adversity may strike, parents do strive to instill deep, resilient roots in their children, recognizing that true strength comes from God. A solid foundation and a purpose-driven life can only be realized when we are firmly rooted in God's Word and actively engaged in his church. Then we are destined to bear the fruits of faith.
Apply:
Make church a nonnegotiable priority for your family. Dive into his Word daily so you will have a firm foundation that you can pass along to your children.
Pray:
God, I want my children to know you more and to develop strong roots, so the storms of life won't destroy them. Help me saturate their lives with the gospel and your truths so that they will have a foundation so that they will not be shaken when the winds blow. In Jesus' name. Amen.
