Read
1 Samuel 22:2,
"And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented, gathered to David. And he became captain over them."
Think
"When you
give up control to God, you truly gain control." Isn't it true that we often tend to focus more on what money can do
for us than
to us? A recent study showed that only 46% of American households earn more than they spend. Easy credit, lack of planning, and instant gratification are just a few of the many contributing factors that currently have a whopping 54% of Americans living under a debt sentence! Today, our consumption-crazed society falsely leads us to believe the more we buy the happier we'll be. However, the Bible teaches us that the opposite is true. That is why in today's verse, "everyone" dealing with distress, debt, and discontentment sought help from King David – God's man with a financial plan. Does this ancient 3-D dilemma sound familiar? How can we possibly expect to find true peace and contentment if everything we earn is going towards paying down debt? The moral of this story is simple: stay out of debt! If you are a frivolous spender or are in debt, now is the time to make some course corrections. The solution: trust God, seek wise counsel, and take action to help you move toward financial freedom!
