Christmas Lights

Read:

Isaiah 9:2, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the deep darkness a light has dawned.”

John 1:5,9, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”

Think:

One of the first indications of the Christmas season is the appearance of lights – lights on trees and in windows, radiance everywhere. Everything seems to be wrapped in stars. Lights aren’t just decorative, they are symbolic. In order to see the brilliance of the lights, we have to grasp the darkness of the night. We have to see how “dark” our world is. Jesus was born at a time filled with abuse of power, homelessness, refugees fleeing oppression, families ripped apart, and horrific grief. No one knew how to cure the suffering; no earthly measure could fix the darkness. Then Jesus came.

When Jesus was born, a special star illuminated the night sky and announced the Savior had come. Light had come to dispel the darkness. Jesus wants to do that for us also. He came to trade our darkness for light. Whatever your situation, allow Him in today to bring the light.

Act:

Today lets “flip the switch.” If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Savior, you can do so right now! If you have, bring the light to someone else by telling them about the Light of the world!

Pray:

Jesus, I need your light today to guide me, to show me the way. Brighten my path and make it clear. I give you my day; use me as a flashlight of grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
