Ephesians 1:18-19, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of his calling, what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe…”
Think
What is one thing you would do if you knew you couldn’t fail? That question probably makes you think of doing something significant, but whatever it is, the key to that question is “knew.” Knowing that you couldn’t fail would need to take the 18-inch journey from information in your head to belief in your heart. That small journey has a big impact because what we know in our head produces knowledge, but what we believe in our hearts produces action.
Paul wrote these verses to stir something inside of Christ-followers. He wanted them to know and believe in the hope, riches and power that comes from a relationship with Christ. Paul knew if they believed in those things, they would do giant things for God!
God has giant things planned for your life, but you have to do more than know it. You have to believe it. If you want to get the most out of today’s reading, the key is in the next section: “Act.”
Act
Belief and action go hand in hand. Action produces belief then belief produces more action. Your first action doesn’t have to be a giant action, but it has to be something! You know God wants you to serve others, so find a way to serve someone today. You know God doesn’t want you to worry, so find a way to focus on the positive. You know God wants you to pray for others, so pray for someone today.
Pray
God, thank You for all you offer me in a relationship with You. Please help me take action on what I know, because I want to live every day with purpose! Amen
