1 Corinthians 9:22 “…I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.”
Think
Today’s scripture gives us a very clear picture of how we should connect with others as we go about our daily lives. Paul suggests that we find “common ground.” In other words, we need to establish a rapport by letting our dialogue be shaped by the tastes and interests of others. Establish connecting points with others by asking questions and putting ourselves in their shoes.
Why put in all that effort? Is it so we will have more friends on Facebook? Is it so we can gain the favor of others? No. We start a conversation and connection so God can use it for His purposes.
We want others to know they are valued. Making a difference in their lives is the underlying motive since we know that a relationship with God is what makes all the difference in the world.
Act
Think of someone you know who isn’t a Christ-follower and make the effort to have a conversation with them, putting yourself in their shoes, and finding common ground. Then, invite them to church on Sunday!
Pray
God, thank You for helpful verses that give clear handles on conversing and connecting with others. I want to have a bottom line purpose of furthering Your gospel so that those I connect with will come to know You! I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
